Food Now strengthens families and builds healthier communities by providing the following services for our clients.

Weekly Food Distribution

Provides fresh produce, dairy products, protein, bread, and shelf-stable groceries through efficient drive-through distributions. Helps households obtain nutritious food with dignity while preserving limited income for rent, utilities, medicine, transportation, and other necessities.

Home Delivery Program

Volunteer drivers deliver groceries each week to approximately 150 households whose members are homebound, medically fragile, older, disabled, or unable to reach a distribution because they lack transportation. Removes physical and transportation barriers that might otherwise leave vulnerable residents without reliable access to nutritious food. Additional volunteer drivers needed.

Fuel for Success - Weekend Meals for Hungry Kids

In partnership with the Palm Springs Unified School District, Food Now discreetly provides weekend meal packs to approximately 270 food-insecure students throughout the school year. Each pack contains child-friendly breakfasts, lunches, and snacks for weekends when school meals are unavailable, helping children return to school on Monday nourished and better prepared to learn.

Senior Nutrition Program

Provides approximately 300 income-eligible seniors with a substantial food box each month through the Commodity Supplemental Food Program. Helps older adults living on fixed incomes maintain better nutrition, preserve their independence, and reduce difficult choices between food, medicine, utilities, and housing costs.

Retail Food Rescue

Conducts scheduled pickups from local grocery retailers through Feeding America’s Store Donation Program, recovering safe, nutritious food that might otherwise be discarded. Increases the variety of food available to clients, reduces food waste, and turns local surplus into immediate community benefit.

Pet Food Program

Distributes pet food to more than 200 households during weekly food distributions. Helps people with limited incomes - including seniors and individuals experiencing homelessness - keep beloved companion animals fed without sacrificing their own food or surrendering a pet because they cannot afford pet food.

Benefits Access, Outreach, and Supportive Services

A community benefits coordinator is available once each week to help clients understand eligibility requirements and enroll in programs such as Southern California Edison’s CARE Program, WIC, CalFresh/SNAP, affordable health care, and Covered California. Information and presentations are available in both English and Spanish, helping clients who may be unaware of - or may not fully understand - the benefits available to them. Staff and volunteers also connect clients with trusted resources for housing, transportation, veterans’ services, and other needs, helping families move beyond immediate food assistance toward greater stability and self-sufficiency.

Ready-to-Eat Meals for People Experiencing Homelessness

Under its agreement with the City of Desert Hot Springs, Food Now has the capacity to provide up to 250 ready-to-eat meals each week for people experiencing homelessness. When requested, this assistance supports the City’s SWAG model - Safety, Wellness, Accountability, and Growth - and its outreach and stabilization efforts. The meals are designed for people without access to a kitchen, refrigeration, cooking equipment, or a safe place to store food. Through the City’s broader homelessness response, individuals may also be connected with addiction recovery, mental health care, case management, housing assistance, and other supportive services - addressing immediate hunger while helping create a pathway toward permanent housing and long-term stability.

Emergency and Disaster Response

Food Now has a history of being called upon during emergencies. Its food network, vehicles, storage capacity, volunteers, and community partnerships allow the agency to respond quickly when disasters, extreme weather, or economic disruptions threaten access to food.
